Country Lead DACH / Samsung TV Plus
Benedikt Frey is and describes himself as a digital native. His enthusiasm for new technologies and innovations, combined with his extensive knowledge of the TV landscape, led him to Samsung Electronics, where he has been responsible for the DACH region as Country Lead Samsung TV Plus since 2020.
Benedikt Frey is in charge of Samsung TV Plus services including Owned and Operated Services within the German-speaking markets. This task includes the acquisition and development of trusted partnerships as well as the continuity management of the now more than 100 channels. Previous milestones of his career at Samsung TV Plus include the go-live and maintenance of over 100 linear AVOD/FAST channels as well as the further expansion and successful launch of Samsung's TV Plus Mobile App. This also includes the world's first launch of 8K content on a streaming service ("Das Boot", season 3) and the go-live of the first international premium sports FAST channel in cooperation with DAZN (DAZN FAST+).
The development of reliable partnerships, such as with ZDF Studios for the launch of the documentary channel Wilder Planet, are part of the core business. In the course of his career of more than ten years, Benedikt Frey has distinguished himself as an expert for business models within the national and international TV landscape. Be it as Head of Digital Distribution at the leading German media company ProSieben Sat.1 Media SE or as Commercial Lead at the video-on-demand portal maxdome GmbH. In addition, Benedikt Frey is Vice Chair within the New TV Working Group, which deals with consumer electronics and new topics related to TV and is organised by Bitkom, the industry association of the German information and telecommunications sector.
Moving images in combination with digitalisation are the main topics of the business economist, who also holds a Bachelor of Science 'Business Administration' from the Swedish Luleå University of Technology. Already at the beginning of his career at Payback, his guiding principle was to strengthen and expand digital partnerships. He will continue to expand these at Samsung TV Plus in order to fully develop the growth potential.
